Geoscience / Engineering Intern, Albuquerque, NM 23-03-ABQ01

INTERA Incorporated is looking for a self-motivated summer intern to join our Albuquerque, New Mexico, office. We're interested in applicants who are currently studying Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or Environmental Science. Additionally, if you're a team player and someone with an enthusiasm for learning and problem-solving, this might be the opportunity for you. In this role, you will assist with the collection of groundwater, surface water, soil, and air quality data and samples in the field, while supporting data management and reporting activities in the office. Your team will be made up of geologists, hydrogeologists, engineers, and environmental scientists who exemplify excellence in their respective fields, and they're ready to teach if you are ready to learn. Having an organized approach to understanding each project, its unique objectives, the necessary equipment, and the required method to complete the work will be key to your success.

 Responsibilities

  • Completing routine monitoring events using field instruments to collect environmental data (e.g., measuring water levels) and collecting environmental samples using field equipment (e.g., groundwater sample collection)
  • Assisting in data management (table and figure creation) and reporting activities
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for field work (e.g., completion of OSHA 24-hour HAZWOPER)

 

Required Education and Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work well in a team
  • Willing and able to travel to project sites in New Mexico and Utah

 

Desired Education and Skills

  • Foundational knowledge of hydrogeology
  • Prior work experience with an environmental or engineering firm
  • Experience with data evaluation and technical report preparation
  • Stellar writing skills
  • OSHA 24-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER training
