Principal Hydrogeologist / Groundwater Modeler, Houston, TX 23-04-HOU01

INTERA Incorporated is a geoscience and engineering consulting firm with a great opportunity for a Principal Hydrogeologist/Groundwater Modeler in our Houston, Texas, office. We’re on a mission to help our clients manage water-related project risks, so we’re looking for someone with a solid understanding of hydrogeologic principles and practices. We’ll be counting on you to design conceptual and numeric models of groundwater aquifer systems, and then present your results. Meanwhile, you’ll be woven into multi-disciplinary teams from our offices around the country and challenged to be excellent and innovative in all your solutions.

About the Position

In this position, you will be leading and contributing to multi-dimensional teams of geologists, hydrologists, geochemists, engineers, and GIS analysts. In addition to bringing hydrogeologic concepts to life as numerical models, we need someone who can create clear and captivating reports and presentations for a variety of audiences.

Our ideal candidate should have strong data compilation and analysis skills, as well as the ability to provide quick approximations of flow and transport problems. You will need a solid background in constructing and applying numerical models to simulate groundwater flow in both under-saturated and variably saturated conditions. Additionally, you should be able to apply your knowledge of numerical methods, flow and transport modeling codes, and analyses of spatial data to independently develop tools that inform water-resource management decisions. Candidates should expect to work closely with clients to develop solutions and present results.

You will work primarily in the office but there may also be opportunities to work in the field. Residence in Houston, Texas, is required, but relocation assistance will be happily provided if necessary.

Desired Education and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geology, Applied Mathematics, or a similar field

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • The desire to collaborate with diverse groups of people at all levels of skill and classification
