Senior Principal Chemical Engineer, Richland, WA 22-02-WA02

We’re looking for a Senior Principal Chemical Engineer to join our Waste Isolation and Performance Assessment (WIPA) line of business team. This position is based in Richland, WA, and the successful candidate will have a leadership role supporting various US Department of Energy projects at the Hanford Site. You will need to have a full understanding of the waste feed delivery and regulatory drivers associated with the Hanford high-level waste (HLW) program. This role would be great for someone aiming to make a positive impact on the DOE HLW program by providing innovations, efficiencies, and positive change to the program. Our ideal team member is a leader who can provide a fresh perspective while being eager to engage with our customers to help determine their specific challenges. We want to find how our expertise aligns with finding solutions to their needs. 


Responsibilities

  • Lead technical teams on multiple concurrent projects to perform a work scope that supports the regulatory decision process for the HLW program.
  • Collaborate with DOE, prime contractors, federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Contribute to successful proposals, develop scopes of work and provide cost estimates
  • Present findings to clients, colleagues, and other interested parties.
  • Mentor entry- and mid-level staff members.
  • Review reports and research done by other scientists and engineers.
     

Preferred qualifications

  • MS in Chemical Engineering or a similar field.
  • 20+ years of experience, including 5+ years of management experience (preferably at Hanford Site or Savannah River Site) with the entire chemical engineering project life cycle associated with high-level wase. This includes process-level modeling, waste retrieval, treatment/feasibility studies, system design, tank operations modeling, lifecycle reports, system fabrication, testing, and customer acceptance/turnover.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and facilitation.
  • Experience in business development, marketing, proposal writing, and developing scopes of work and cost estimates.
  • Ability to play nicely with others and collaborate to create high-quality work.
  • Ability to write, speak, and present to a variety of people, both internal and external, and both technical and non-technical.
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination to meet federal contracting requirements.
