Geologist / Hydrogeologist, Bloomington, IN 22-21-IN02

Job Description

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Working closely with project managers, professional geologists, and other experienced staff on hydrogeologic site investigations throughout the Midwest
  • Routine monitoring events such as installing pressure gauges and measuring water levels
  • Collecting samples and/or using field instruments to monitor hydrologic conditions (groundwater, stormwater, surface water)
  • Supporting and participating in site-characterization investigations, including geophysical surveys, well drilling oversight, geologic logging, groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing events
  • Collecting, evaluating, and interpreting geologic data
  • Developing and updating 3-D Geologic Models and Site maps in ArcGIS
  • Documenting, managing, and analyzing data to develop graphical summaries and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word or equivalent software
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for fieldwork
  • Overseeing work performed by subcontractors, to ensure work is completed in accordance with work plans, design drawings, specifications, and/or client expectations
  • Interfacing with clients 

 

Required Education and Skills

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geosciences, hydrogeology, or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of hydrogeology
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to ensure that routine tasks are completed on schedule
  • Capable of providing thorough and accurate records of field activities through the use of forms and daily logs
  • Previous experience with data evaluation and technical report preparation
  • Clear communication skills with technical and non-technical topics through writing, presentations, and verbal methods to a variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in working both independently and in project teams  
  • Willing and able to safely drive and/or travel to project sites for up to 2 to 3 weeks at a time
  • Ability to seek a Professional Geologist license

 

Desired Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems (pumps, motors, blowers, field instruments, etc.)
  • Prior work experience with an environmental or engineering firm
  • Basic understanding of level survey methods (rod & level, laser level, total station)
  • Experience with drilling techniques and sample collection
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
