Geologist / Hydrogeologist, Austin, TX 23-18-AUS05

Job Description

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Correlating subsurface stratigraphy via wireline logs in IHS Petra, Kingdom, or Petrel
  • Interpreting geophysical data as it pertains to aquifers, such as seismic, ERT, MT, gravity, and other geophysical data
  • Creating, editing, and developing maps in ESRI ArcMap or ArcPro
  • Automating repetitive tasks using Python
  • Interpreting various amounts of hydrogeologic data, such as water levels, well tests, water quality, and similar data
  • Interpreting geologic data, such as cuttings, core, outcrop, wireline log, geophysics, checkshot data, and similar data
  • Facies modeling capabilities using Petrel
  • 3D model creation using Leapfrog
  • Documenting, managing, and analyzing aquifer data to develop graphical summaries and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word or equivalent software
  • Overseeing drilling activities including logging soil and rock cuttings, installing monitoring well and groundwater production wells, developing water wells, deploying groundwater monitoring equipment for conducting aquifer pumping tests, and collecting groundwater samples
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for fieldwork
  • Overseeing work performed by subcontractors, to ensure work is completed in accordance with work plans, design drawings, specifications, and/or client expectations
  • Report writing
  • Interfacing with and presenting to clients

 

Required Education and Skills

  • A master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in geosciences, hydrogeology, environmental science, or a related field
  • Capabilities in subsurface geologic interpretations
  • Foundational knowledge of hydrogeology
  • Demonstrable writing skills and the ability to synthesize science reports from several sources of data
  • Capable of providing thorough and accurate records of field activities using forms and daily logs
  • Previous experience with data evaluation and technical report preparation
  • Clear communication skills with technical and non-technical topics through writing, presentations, and verbal methods to a variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in working both independently and in project teams  
  • Willing and able to safely drive and/or travel to project sites for up to 2 to 3 weeks at a time as needed

 

 Desired Education and Skills

  • Preference is given to candidates with a master’s degree with coursework in structural geology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy
  • Prior work experience in oil and gas or groundwater development is highly desired
  • Prior work experience with an environmental or engineering firm is highly desired
  • Previous experience with drilling techniques and sample collection
