Environmental Technician, Albuquerque, NM 24-03-ABQ01

INTERA is in need of a self-motivated Environmental Technician for our Albuquerque, New Mexico, office. We’re looking for a dedicated team player who enjoys learning and problem-solving. Your work at INTERA would support environmental and mining project sites in New Mexico, and possibly Texas and Utah. In this position, you will be assisting our talented technical team of geologists, hydrologists, and engineers both in the field and the office.  Responsibilities

  • Operating and maintaining soil vapor and groundwater remediation and landfill gas destruction systems
  • Performing landfill gas monitoring (e.g. well monitoring, surface emission monitoring, compliance sampling) 
  • Completing routine monitoring events such as downloading pressure gauges and measuring water levels 
  • Collecting environmental samples and/or using field instruments to monitor environmental conditions (groundwater, stormwater, surface water, soil vapor, landfill gas, soil/sediment, and air) 
  • Supporting and participating in environmental site characterization investigations including soil gas investigations, drilling for soil and groundwater sampling and well construction, and hydraulic testing events 
  • Performing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections and reporting the results
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for fieldwork 
  • Overseeing work done by subcontractors, including ensuring work is completed in accordance with work plans, design drawings, specifications, and/or client expectations 

 

Required Education and Skills 

  • High school diploma 
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems (pumps, motors, blowers, field instruments, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to ensure routine tasks are completed on schedule 
  • The ability to provide thorough and accurate records of field activities through the use of forms and daily logs 
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work both independently and in project teams  
  • Willing and able to travel to project sites mainly in New Mexico, with the possibility of travel to Texas and Utah 

 

Desired Education and Skills 

  • Prior work experience with an environmental or engineering firm 
  • Basic understanding of level survey methods (rod & level, laser level, total station) 
  • Experience with Phase I ESAs, environmental drilling techniques, and environmental sample collection 
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
