Entry-Level Geologist / Hydrogeologist, Austin, TX 24-21-AUS04

INTERA Incorporated is looking for an entry-level Geologist/Hydrogeologist to join us in our Austin, TX, office. Responsibilities

This position will require someone willing and able to travel and work in the field for short and long periods.

  • Traveling approximately 70% of the time for field-related activities that can last up to two consecutive weeks
  • Completing routine monitoring events such as downloading pressure transducer data and measuring water levels
  • Overseeing drilling activities including logging soil and rock cuttings, installing monitoring wells and groundwater production wells, developing water wells, deploying groundwater monitoring equipment in support of conducting aquifer pumping tests, and collecting groundwater samples
  • Collecting environmental samples and/or using field instruments to monitor environmental conditions (groundwater, stormwater, surface water, soil vapor, landfill gas, soil/sediment, and air)
  • Supporting and participating in site characterization investigations including soil gas investigations, monitoring well drilling and installation, soil and groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing events
  • Developing and updating site maps in ArcGIS
  • Documenting, managing, and analyzing aquifer and environmental data to develop graphical summaries and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Development of and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for fieldwork
  • Overseeing work performed by subcontractors, to ensure work is completed following work plans, design drawings, specifications, and/or client expectations
  • Interfacing with clients in the field

 

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geosciences, hydrogeology, or a related field
  • Foundational knowledge of hydrogeology
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to ensure that routine tasks are completed on schedule
  • Capable of providing thorough and accurate records of field activities using forms and daily logs
  • Clear communication skills for technical and non-technical topics through writing, presentations, and verbal methods for a variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in working both independently and in project teams  
  • Willing and able to safely drive and/or travel to project sites for up to two consecutive weeks

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, with coursework in hydrogeology, structural geology, sedimentology, carbonate sedimentology, and stratigraphy
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems (construction equipment, pumps, motors, blowers, field instruments, etc.)
  • Previous experience with data evaluation and technical report preparation
  • Experience with logging soil/rock
  • Experience with ArcGIS
