Specifically, we are seeking a Senior or Principal Air Quality Engineer / Scientist to support the management and execution of job scopes related to air quality permitting and compliance, air dispersion modeling, and other ESG-driven initiatives. In this seller-doer role, you would use your skills and expertise to explore and develop new business opportunities in the Houston and Gulf Coast markets and manage our air quality projects.

Responsibilities

The Senior or Principal Air Quality Engineer / Scientist is a Houston-based seller-doer role that participates in the management and execution of job scopes related to air quality permitting and compliance, air dispersion modeling, and other ESG-driven initiatives. This position will operate under the operational and technical direction of INTERA’s Technical Director of Air Quality, and the chosen candidate will will serve as a key member of INTERA’s Mining and Environmental Line of Business. The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Managing large, complex, and/or high-profile air quality projects for INTERA’s clients
  • Identifying and pursuing business development opportunities
  • Developing INTERA’s brand in the Houston and Gulf Coast markets
  • Serving as a Trusted Advisor who develops and manages key client relationships
  • Using previous experience and advanced knowledge to analyze and interpret local, state, and federal environmental regulations
  • Participate in various scientific and trade organization meetings and conventions as an ambassador of INTERA
  • Serving as an expert witness in administrative or litigation hearings
  • Reviewing work product prepared by INTERA staff members
  • Performing other duties as necessary at the direction of management

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in air quality permitting and compliance projects
  • BS in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or a related field
  • Demonstrable track record of successful business development outcomes
  • Demonstrated capability of understanding, interpreting, and applying environmental regulations and technical proficiency in practical situations
  • Proficiency in time management
  • Proven experience with developing and maintaining client and regulator relationships through desirable outcomes on projects
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on the ability to give and receive instructions, and give and receive constructive feedback in a positive manner
  • Ability to manage, mentor and/or train other INTERA staff members
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment in a manner that aligns with INTERA’s culture

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or a related field
  • 5-10 years of supervisory experience
  • 5-10 years of project scoping and proposal preparation experience
  • Previous project experience in air quality dispersion modeling using approved regulatory models (i.e., AERMOD, ISC-PRIME, etc.);
  • PE license or EIT license with the goal of obtaining a PE license
