We are currently seeking a GIS & Graphics Specialist to join the INTERA team. In this position you will be responsible for developing visually appealing maps, report figures, conceptual block models, and other technical cartographic materials and data visualizations to support a variety of environmental and water resources projects. Our Graphics and GIS Specialist will also oversee organizing and maintaining geospatial databases containing infrastructure, geology, water quality, soil, and other environmental datasets.
The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possesses the ability to work seamlessly within a team since you will be collaborating with a diverse group of scientists and managers to achieve high-quality deliverables. Although preference will be given to candidates who can work from Austin, Texas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, or Denver, Colorado, we are happy to consider applicants who wish to work in other locations if they have the right combination of skills and experience.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Working with a team to develop site maps, potentiometric surfaces, plume concentration maps, and graphics for remediation sites, including those that are large and complex
- Developing geology cross-sections and 3-D figures
- Conducting spatial data enhancement for irrigation water use
- Processing high-quality LiDAR data engineering designs
- Using satellite and aerial imagery to evaluate land use over time and develop water use estimates
- Performing a multitemporal spatial analysis of irrigated acreage using modern aerial imagery and OpenET remote sensing data
- Identifying spatial and temporal trends of a variety of hydrogeological and water quality data
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Information Systems, Environmental Science, or a closely related field
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with GIS software. Familiarity using the Esri suite of software including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcMap is a must. Knowledge of QGIS software is welcomed.
- Experience with georeferencing tools and workflows
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated proficiency with cartographic design (labeling, color, typography, alignment, etc.)
- Ability to clean, process, edit, analyze, and visualize vector and raster data
- Strong understanding of map projections and data transformations
- Excellent organizational skills
- Adaptability and flexibility with organizational structures
- Ability to work independently to complete technical work
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Have a readily available portfolio with a minimum of 3 work samples
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Surfer, Google Earth, photo editing software (e.g.Affinity, Photoshop), vector editing software, and AutoCAD
- Experience automating workflows with Python
Expected salary range: $67,500 - $82,500
