Geochemist - 23-30-US02

INTERA is looking for a motivated Geochemist to join our Mining line of business. In this position, you will mainly support projects related to the permitting, operation, and closure of a variety of mine and mill sites. For the successful candidate who is eager to learn and gain diverse experience, there may also be opportunities to support teams in the water resources, environmental, and radiological waste lines of business.

Although preference will be given to candidates who can work from Albuquerque, New Mexico, or Denver, Colorado, we are still happy to consider applicants who wish to work in other locations if they have the right combination of skills and experience.

 

Task and Responsibilities

This position requires a solid understanding of geochemical principles and standard geochemical analytical techniques. Experience with statistical concepts, statistical software, and geochemical modeling software, such as PHREEQC or similar, is preferred. You can expect to perform the following tasks:

  • developing scopes of work and sampling and analysis plans for hydrogeochemical investigations
  • compiling, wrangling, synthesizing, and analyzing data to develop conceptual and quantitative models of geochemical systems
  • generating visualizations of geochemical data
  • analyzing geochemical data using basic to advanced statistical approaches
  • creating inputs and evaluating outputs from geochemical models
  • evaluating quality assurance/quality control procedures and data for deliverables
  • preparing reports and technical presentations to clients, regulators, and other stakeholders

Eventually, or immediately if you have the required experience, your job duties will include management of projects and/or overseeing technical work.

 

Required Qualifications

  • MS in Geosciences or a closely related field with a concentration in geochemistry or a chemistry-related field
  • 3 -5 years of applicable experience, which can include time spent pursuing an advanced degree, with a primary emphasis on water, sediment, rock, and/or mine waste geochemistry data acquisition and analysis
  • Experience with fundamental geochemical theories and calculations
  • Experience acquiring and interpreting representative geochemical data
  • The ability to be an effective member of project teams, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel to project sites (national and international) for fieldwork, site visits, and client meetings

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD in geochemistry or a closely related field
  • Prior experience in consulting
  • Experience with statistical analysis software
  • Experience with geochemical modeling with PHREEQC or similar software
  • Knowledge of ore deposit genesis, mineralogy, and geochemistry
  • Basic programming skills
  • Spanish language fluency
