Groundwater / Vadose Zone Modeling Specialist (Entry-Level) - 24-24-US10

INTERA Incorporated is looking to fill an entry-level Groundwater Modeler / Vadose Zone Modeling Specialist. Candidates who wish to work remotely will be considered, as well as candidates who wish to work in one of our other U.S. offices. This is an excellent opportunity to be mentored by industry experts to learn and grow in the field of subsurface flow and contaminant transport modeling and system-scale modeling. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support on flow and transport modeling projects under the direction of INTERA’s senior modelers. You will be working on fate and transport modeling in the vadose zone and saturated zone as well as system-level performance assessment modeling at the Hanford Site. This will include:

  • Performing numerical flow and transport modeling of the subsurface and/or developing system-scale transport models
  • Compiling, synthesizing, and analyzing data to develop conceptual site model and numerical models
  • Support preparing reports and technical presentations for clients, regulators, and other stakeholders


Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering, Hydrogeology, Applied Mathematics, or a related field with emphasis on numerical modeling of the subsurface processes


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with computer programming and data analysis
  • Solid understanding of hydrogeological principles and practices
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental laws (CERCLA, RCRA, NEPA, etc.)


Expected salary range:  $60,000 — $80,000
