Senior Geochemist, Albuquerque, NM 24-35-ABQ05

INTERA is hiring a Senior Geochemist to support and lead technically complex projects primarily within our Mining line of business. In this position, you will serve as both technical lead and project manager on a wide variety of projects related to the development, operation, and closure of mine and mill sites. Although this is primarily an office-based position, there may be some opportunities to travel and do fieldwork. You will report to our Albuquerque, New Mexico office, but candidates wishing to work remotely will be considered.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Geochemist, you will be contributing to a multidisciplinary project team of scientists, engineers, and GIS analysts. As part of the team, we will be counting on you to plan and implement data collection campaigns, manage and analyze data, author reports, develop presentations, and contribute to the scientific approaches that we develop and deliver to our clients. This will include implementing highly technical work plans or studies for complex projects, leading teams of personnel to conduct field and office work, and providing subject matter expertise to other project managers.

You’ll get the opportunity to work on a broad range of tasks related to the life of the mine including the following:

  • Baseline hydrologic and geochemical characterization
  • Domestic and international permitting strategies
  • Water sourcing
  • Dewatering evaluation and design
  • Groundwater and geochemical modeling
  • Closure planning
  • Hydraulic borehole testing
  • Risk-based compliance strategies
  • Acid rock drainage prediction and mitigation
  • Corrective action plan design and implementation
  • Hydrologic tracer sampling and analysis
  • Geochemical statistics and analysis
  • Fate and transport modeling

There may also be opportunities to support the water resources, environmental, carbon capture and storage, and radiological waste lines of business.

 

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in geosciences or a closely related field with a concentration in geochemistry or a chemistry-related field
  • 5+ years of applicable experience or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience that showcases a successful track record of team leadership and client engagement
  • Experience with geochemical modeling and software, such as PHREEQC or similar
  • Efficient decision-making ability
  • Effective project management skills with a focus on the client
  • Clear, well-rounded communication skills and the ability to maintain strong interpersonal relationships
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse, multidisciplinary teams
  • Adept planning, time management, and organization skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in geosciences or a closely related field with a concentration in geochemistry or a chemistry-related field
  • Experience with statistical concepts and statistical software
  • Professional registration as a geologist
  • Computer programming skills
  • Working proficiency or fluency in more than one language including Spanish
