Water Resources Scientist, Albuquerque, New Mexico 24-48-ABQ07

INTERA is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Water Resources Specialist to join our collaborative New Mexico Water Resources team. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, Western United States water resources activities, public outreach, hydrogeology, and technical evaluations with a passion for protecting and managing water resources sustainably.

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be responsible for working closely with a collaborative team on a variety of hydrogeology and water resources planning projects. Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Groundwater Sustainability Plan Deliverable Support: Coordinate with multiple authors on California groundwater sustainability plans. Develop executive summaries for these plans to a target audience of stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Stakeholder Outreach: Develop plans for and conduct public outreach to identify and support values, needs, and knowledge of stakeholders in relation to water resource resilience decision support.
  • Water Rights Adjudication Support: Support aspects of water rights adjudication services including but not limited to hydrographic surveys, water use analysis, and hydrologic investigations.
  • Technical Writing: Support proposal development and reporting for project deliverables. 
  • Data Processing: Collect, manage, and interpret large-scale datasets.
  • GIS Support: Conduct spatial analyses and generate figures.
     

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
  • 1 – 5 years experience in water resources, preferably in the western United States.
  • Highly skilled technical reports.
  • Clear, well-rounded communication skills and the ability to maintain strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Foundational understanding of Western United States water rights.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Experience with ArcGIS.
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Desire to join or be actively involved in professional organizations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a water resources related discipline.
  • Professional registration or the desire/ability to earn a professional registration (EIT or PE).
