Internship Description
In this 8–10-week summer program, the Water Resources Intern will work closely with INTERA scientists on water resources projects throughout the Midwest. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in applying data analysis, GIS, and technical skills to real-world water science challenges.
An experienced water resources scientist will mentor this internship and requires in-person attendance in our centrally located Bloomington office. The Intern will be provided with a computer, a dedicated workspace, and will have opportunities to attend virtual orientation and our Summer Seminar Series, which offers deeper insight into the meaningful work we do at INTERA.
Key Responsibilities
- Support field data collection processes, including documentation, scheduling site visits, and traveling to sites
- Conduct data analysis to determine trends in groundwater quality and/or water levels
- Refer to local, state, and federal rules and regulations pertaining to water resources as necessary
- Present information clearly and concisely, using visualization techniques to support findings
- Manage databases to ensure data are organized, accurate, and readily available
- Assist with map production and other GIS-related tasks
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, or currently enrolled to obtain a bachelor’s degree, in geology, hydrology, environmental science, environmental management, engineering, or a related field
- Demonstrate willingness to learn, work both independently and as part of a team, and take initiative
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using software for word processing, database management, GIS, or other modeling projects
- Experience collecting field data and documenting results
- Experience working with hydrogeologic, environmental, or engineering-related datasets
Other Requirements
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License
Expected Pay Range: $20 per hour
