PFAS Technical Expert, Remote US 25-18-US04

INTERA Incorporated is looking to fill a senior-level position to lead technical and business development teams executing and pursuing nationwide PFAS projects. This person will complement the diverse groups within INTERA that are engaged with solving PFAS problems that challenge water utilities, governmental agencies, and private companies. In this position, the successful candidate will have the responsibility of:

  • Leading business development efforts associated with the assessment, investigation and remediation of PFAS impacts
  • Directing technical aspects of INTERA’s PFAS business initiative; including leading and/or active participation in INTERA’s PFAS and environmental technical advisory committees
  • Developing and presenting strategies for solving PFAS problems facing existing and prospective clients
  • Guiding project teams in technical aspects such as PFAS fate and transport, human and ecological risk, and regulatory compliance
  • Leading teams in responses to request for proposals
  • Collaborating with marketing teams to update and develop statement of qualifications, service brochures, and INTERA’s website
  • Presenting to professional organizations
  • Networking and staying current on the state of the science

Required Qualifications

  • Successful business development efforts associated with the assessment, investigation and remediation of sites impacted with PFAS, VOCs/SVOCs, metals, and/or other inorganic compounds
  • Proven PFAS investigation and remediation experience
  • Publications in peer-reviewed technical journals related to the investigation and/or remediation of PFAS in soils and groundwater
  • Master’s Degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering, and/or hydrogeology, geology, or related field
  • 10 years of experience with increasing level of responsibility
  • Expert in hydrogeology, contaminant fate and transport, environmental regulations, and mitigation and remediation methods
  • Strong understanding of human health and ecological risk assessments
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in team or mentoring settings
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, and client and INTERA offices

Desired Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience working as environmental professional with consulting firm and/or in academia
  • Expert in chlorinated hydrocarbon, petroleum hydrocarbon, and 1,4-dioxane investigation and remediation methods
  • Knowledge of the risk associated with emerging contaminants such as micro plastics and 6PPD-quinone
  • Strong understanding of state and federal environmental regulatory laws, regulations, and rules
  • Experience using fate and transport models to predict movement of contaminants in vadose zone and groundwater
  • Proficiency with geostatistical methods used for assessment of data
  • Experience providing environmental litigation support and expert witness testimony
  • PhD in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering, hydrogeology, geology, or related field
  • Active participation in environmental professional organizations
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist licensure
  • HAZWOPER training

Expected salary range commensurate with skills and experience and dependent on location:  $120,000 to $160,000
