Water Resources Engineer, Northern California, 25-32-CA02

INTERA is looking for a creative and motivated mid-to-senior level Water Resources Engineer to join our team in Northern California where our mission is to help water agencies achieve long-term resiliency and sustainability. Our clients are faced with complex challenges involving climate change, emerging contaminants, limited water supplies, evolving regulations, and water service affordability. For this reason, we are searching for a candidate who brings a strong understanding of water utility planning, engineering, operations, and regulation that can help our clients navigate these issues and implement lasting solutions.

In this position, you will be a key member of a team helping to grow INTERA’s water planning, development, and management services for the water utility market in California, including management of key projects, support of new business development, and implementation of strategic initiatives. You will also collaborate with talented colleagues across the country to manage and support a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects. This position anticipates regional travel and fieldwork with most projects located in California. Key Responsibilities

  • Work as a project manager or technical lead with multi-disciplinary teams of hydrogeologists, modelers, engineers, scientists, GIS analysts, and others on integrated groundwater and surface water resource planning and management projects in California and throughout the country
  • Effective management of projects and tasks to meet objectives on schedule and within budget
  • Manage groundwater well siting, design, permitting, bidding, construction, and rehabilitation services for water agency and other clients. Provide or supervise field oversight
  • Support business development and client management in the California market which includes guiding clients to appropriate solutions and develop complete and accurate scope and budget for proposed work
  • Conceptual engineering design, cost estimating, and economic analysis for water supply infrastructure associated with planning studies and alternatives analysis
  • Presentation of findings to clients, colleagues, and other interested parties
  • Review reports and research done by other scientists and engineers
  • Mentoring of junior staff
  • Effective collaboration with INTERA’s strategic teaming partners to enhance the breadth and value of offered services

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in civil or water resources engineering, hydrogeology, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience, including experience working closely with or at public and private water agencies
  • California PE and/or PG license, or ability to obtain within a year
  • Experience with California-specific hydrologic, geologic, and groundwater quality datasets
  • Experience with drilling oversight, logging, soil/groundwater sampling, and aquifer tests
  • Commitment to quality, innovation, and collaborative team approaches to problem solving
  • Clear, well-rounded communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships
  • Able to collaborate across diverse, multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective project management and client management skills
  • Clear, concise technical and non-technical writing abilities
  • Adept planning, time management, and organization skills
  • Willingness to accommodate up to 50% regional travel

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with California’s Title-22 groundwater replenishment reuse regulations
  • Experience with planning, design, permitting, and construction of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) projects, including Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) wells, injection wells, and recharge basins
  • Experience with water resources planning, water utility master planning, feasibility assessments, or CEQA


California Salary Range: $110K - $170K
