INTERA Incorporated is looking to fill an entry-level to mid-level Geologic Modeler position to join us in our Richland, Washington, office. This position offers strong mentorship and growth opportunities for geoscientists interested in applying geologic interpretation and subsurface modeling skills to real-world environmental challenges. In this role, you will support geologists and hydrogeologists in using geologic and geophysical data for developing geologic models that inform site investigations, remediation strategies, and environmental decision-making at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site—one of the largest environmental cleanup projects in the world.

Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform geologic modeling and interpretation under the direction of INTERA’s senior technical staff. Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Build and update 2-D and 3-D geologic models and conceptual site models
- Develop geologic, hydrogeologic, and lithologic cross-sections; subsurface visualizations including structure and isopach maps; and maps for internal use and client deliverables
- Perform geostatistical analysis
- Compile, interpret, and manage subsurface datasets including borehole logs, geophysical interpretations, stratigraphic and lithologic data, and hydrogeologic and structural information
- Lead and participate in quantitative studies in support of project objectives
- Provide subject matter expertise to Project Managers
- Prepare technical figures, maps, graphics, and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Perform work compliant with Quality Assurance/Quality control procedures that implement U.S. Department of Energy requirements
Required Qualifications
- MS or PhD in geology, hydrogeology, reservoir engineering, or a related field
- Strong ability to interpret borehole and subsurface geologic data
- Experience evaluating data and preparing technical reports
- Proficiency in working both independently and in project teams
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong ability to convey technical information clearly through written, verbal, and visual communication
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to federal contract requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-8 years of applicable experience with emphasis on quantitative evaluation of geologic data and/or geologic models
- Demonstrated ability to use geostatistics in geologic modeling
- Experience with geologic modeling software (Kingdom, Leapfrog, Petrel, or similar) and/or visualization software (Tecplot, GMS, or similar)
- Experience interpreting geophysical and/or petrophysical logs
- Ability to interpret geologic and hydrogeologic data from diverse sources
- Experience with quantitative data analysis, ideally with a scripting language such as Python or R
- Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial data analysis and map generation
- Experience with technical report preparation
Expected salary range: $87,000 — $112,000 depending upon degree and experience.
