INTERA Incorporated is seeking an entry-level Geologist / Hydrogeologist / Engineer to join our Albuquerque, New Mexico office. Your work would support environmental and mining projects primarily in New Mexico while assisting our talented technical team both in the field and the office. This position involves frequent field work with regular travel to project sites.

In this position, you will be contributing to a project team of scientists, engineers, and analysts. As part of the team, you will provide technical support to a variety of reclamation, remediation, mining, and environmental characterization projects — helping clients meet regulatory requirements, restore impacted sites, and sustainably manage natural resources. Clients include state and municipal agencies and private industries that share our values of environmental stewardship and technical excellence.

Job Description

Supporting and participating in environmental and mining site investigations including: drilling and installation of wells, geologic logging and interpretation, soil and groundwater sampling, soil-gas sampling, air sampling, and hydraulic testing events

Overseeing work performed by subcontractors to ensure work is completed in accordance with workplans, design drawings, specifications, and/or client expectations

Documenting, managing, and analyzing environmental data to develop graphical summaries and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word (or equivalent software)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, engineering, or related field
- Solid foundational knowledge of hydrogeology and geology
- Strong organizational skills and ability to ensure routine tasks are completed on schedule while providing thorough and accurate records of field activities through detailed documentation
- Communication of technical and non-technical topics through writing, technical reports, presentations, and verbal methods to a variety of audiences
- Availability to support field tasks at various project site locations for up to 2 weeks at a time
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in environmental science, geosciences, hydrogeology, or a relevant engineering discipline
- Mechanical aptitude and experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems (pumps, motors, blowers, field instruments, etc.)
- Experience with Phase I ESAs, environmental drilling techniques and sample collection
- Goal of acquiring professional licensure (i.e. PE, PG)
- Working knowledge of GIS, data management tools, and/or geologic or groundwater modeling tools (i.e., AQTESOLV, Surfer, LogPlot, GIS, Leapfrog, and AutoCAD, MODFLOW)
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and certification
