The Air Quality Engineer/Scientist assists in the execution of job scopes related to air quality permitting and compliance, including desktop and field-based activities. The position operates under the direction of INTERA’s Director of Air Quality Services (and their respective leadership team) and will serve in the execution of air quality permitting and compliance projects. This position will report to the Albuquerque office.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development and execution of field-based air quality and environmental work scopes;
Prepare application packages for New Source Review (NSR) and Title V permits;
Prepare emission calculations for a variety of technical applications and site types;
Develop and prepare emission inventories for permitting, regulatory reporting, and ongoing compliance;
Assist in the development of recordkeeping tools;
Perform Best Available Control Technology (BACT) analyses;
Perform local, state, and federal regulatory applicability analyses;
Review work product prepared by junior staff; and
Perform other duties as necessary per the direction of leadership.
Required Qualifications
5-8 years of experience in air quality permitting and compliance projects;
A BS in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or a related field;
Ability to travel to the field for one or more days per week;
Enhanced understanding of relevant regulations to your tasks, projects, and overall responsibilities;
Strong technical competencies related to relevant scopes of work;
Ability to mentor and train junior staff;
Proficient in time management;
Effective written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to receive and give direction and constructive feedback in a positive manner;
Proficiency in MS Office suite
Ability to work in a collaborative environment in a professional manner; and
Ability to shepherd and cultivate client relationships through desirable outcomes on projects and actively assist with business development.
Preferred Qualifications
1-2 years of project scoping and proposal preparation experience;
2-3 years of project experience in air quality dispersion modeling using approved regulatory models (i.e., AERMOD, ISC-PRIME, etc.);
Proficiency in other relevant software tools (i.e., SCREEN3, PROMAX, etc.);
Professional Engineer or an E.I.T. license with the goal of obtaining a P.E. license; and
Masters or Ph.D. in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or related field.
